Amazon Product Image Requirements 2026: Complete Seller Guide

Amazon is strict about product images. Non-compliant photos get your listings suppressed, reducing visibility and killing sales. This guide covers every requirement Amazon enforces in 2026, with practical advice on how to make your images compliant in minutes.

Main image rules (MAIN)

The main image is what shoppers see in search results. Amazon is strictest about this image:

  • Pure white background (RGB 255,255,255) — Not off-white, not light gray. Amazon's algorithm checks this automatically.
  • Product only — No props, accessories, or items not included in the purchase.
  • No text, logos, or watermarks — Zero overlays of any kind.
  • No borders or frames — The product must fill the frame naturally.
  • Product fills 85%+ of the frame — Minimal padding around the product.
  • Professional quality — Sharp focus, proper exposure, no pixelation.
  • Full product visible — No cropping of the product itself.

What happens if you violate these rules? Amazon will suppress your listing — it won't appear in search results. You'll receive a "Fix your product information" notification in Seller Central. Some violations trigger immediate suppression; others are flagged during periodic audits.

Secondary image best practices

You can upload up to 8 additional images. While Amazon is more flexible here, the best sellers use them strategically:

  1. Lifestyle image — Product in use, in context. Shows scale and real-world application.
  2. Infographic — Key features called out with text and arrows. Highly effective for conversion.
  3. Detail/close-up — Material texture, stitching, finish quality.
  4. Dimensions — Product with measurements shown.
  5. Package contents — Everything included in the box, laid out clearly.
  6. Comparison — Size comparison with common objects or previous versions.

Category-specific requirements

How to fix non-compliant images

Most image issues can be fixed in seconds with AI tools:

Problem: Background isn't pure white

This is the #1 reason for listing suppression. Even "white" backgrounds from studio shoots are rarely pure #FFFFFF.

Fix: Remove the background with AI and replace with pure white. This guarantees RGB 255,255,255 — no guessing.

Problem: Image too small

Images below 1000 px get rejected. Images below 2000 px lose the zoom feature (which hurts conversion by ~15%).

Fix: AI upscaling at 2x or 4x resolution. A 600×600 image becomes 2400×2400 — exceeding all requirements.

Problem: Inconsistent images across listings

Different backgrounds, lighting, and styles across your catalog look unprofessional and reduce trust.

Fix: Batch process all images with the same settings. Consistent results across your entire catalog.

Fix all images with AutoPhotos

  1. Upload your product photos — Up to 20 at a time.
  2. Select "White background" — Pure #FFFFFF, guaranteed Amazon-compliant.
  3. Enable upscaling (optional) — Ensure 2000+ px for zoom eligibility.
  4. Process and download — Marketplace-ready images in seconds.

Image optimization checklist

  • Main image: pure white background (#FFFFFF)
  • All images: minimum 1000×1000 px (ideally 2000×2000)

  • File format: JPEG for best compression, PNG for transparency
  • File size: under 10 MB (Amazon's limit)
  • Color mode: sRGB (standard for web)
  • Secondary images: mix of lifestyle, infographic, and detail shots
  • All images: sharp focus, proper exposure, no artifacts
